Stripe digital product dispute evidence

Stripe provides dispute workflows and fields for merchants who sell through Stripe. Digital product cases still need delivery and access facts that often live outside Stripe - in course hosts, file systems, license servers, and support tools.

Educational content only. Not legal advice. Not affiliated with Stripe, Inc. Not a prediction of dispute outcomes. Always follow Stripe's current dispute documentation and deadlines for your account.

Use Stripe for what Stripe knows

Stripe can show payment state, customer payment details it holds, and dispute status for charges it processed. That information is necessary when a Stripe dispute opens. It is not a complete story for a digital good whose fulfillment happened in another product.

Merchants should treat Stripe's dispute UI as the channel for response, not as the only archive of delivery truth. Deadlines are short. Searching email and course admin panels after the notice arrives is the expensive pattern.

What digital cases usually still need

Depending on the offer, you may need enrollment timestamps, download-link issuance, file access, license activation, login history, terms version at checkout, and support threads about access. Those events are typically not native Stripe objects. They must be captured from your stack and organized so they can be mapped into whatever evidence fields the dispute flow expects.

Mapping is not invention. Do not fabricate or backdate events. Label merchant-uploaded material clearly. Keep original timestamps.

Provider-independent records still help Stripe merchants

Even if Stripe is your only processor today, an independent chronology has value: cleaner exports, clearer source labels, and continuity if you later add another checkout path. The record belongs to the merchant's operations, not to a single adapter.

ProofRail's first live adapter is Stripe (built and sandbox-verified). The core is provider-neutral. Seeintegrationsfor status labels, andproductfor how the record and export are illustrated.

Operational posture

Connect payment events early. Capture delivery and access as they happen. Preserve a chronological, source-labeled record. Export when a dispute or internal review needs a package. That loop is described onhow it works. Course-specific notes live inchargeback evidence for online courses.

ProofRail does not submit disputes for you, does not hold funds, and does not charge buyers. It does not promise results. If you sell digital products on Stripe and want early access, join the beta.
